Six Short Videos You Must Watch To Better Yourself In Sales

I find, being a salesperson myself, that I highly enjoy and appreciate great education that I can receive and process in under five minutes.

We are busy people with, let’s just face facts, dwindling attention spans.

Some of you may already be wondering when I’m going to get the main message of this blog, right?

Well here goes… here are my top six must-watch videos under six minutes for anyone in sales.

#1 Brene Brown – Empathy (RSA Short)

It seems like Brene Brown is everywhere these days, and she is certainly my new obsession. Some may even call me a Brene Brown stalker, but I like to think of myself as an enthusiastic follower!

Professor, author, researcher and speaker, Brown’s messages on how we connect with self and others are inspiring.

In her cartoon depicted RSA on empathy, Brown lays out the differences between sympathy and empathy and humorously gives examples of each in the way that only she can.

If you’ve every wondered in sales how to handle difficult emotional conversations with your buyers then this one is for you!

#2 Derek Sivers – Weird, or just different? (TED Talk)

One of my personal TED talk favs, Sivers is the winner of the 2003 World Technology award and is best known for his internationally innovative companies.

In this particular TED talk that goes just over 2.5 minutes, Sivers creatively and humorously describes how people from different areas and different cultures see and approach life from different perspectives.

In our every changing global economy, Siver’s message is a must hear for everyone.

#3 Terry Moore – How to Tie Your Shoes (TED Talk)
Whenever I work with a new client, I often begin with this video as my opener to the day.

In this very brief talk and demonstration, Moore uses self deprecating humor to show us that even those things that we’ve been doing for years may prove to have opportunity for improvement.

#4 Brene Brown – Blame (RSA Short)

Did I mention before that I’m slightly obsessed with Brene Brown?

Well obviously, because I can’t resist calling her out again for this supremely funny RSA short on blame.

I find that in sales we tend to blame… a lot!

We blame the customers with messing up the sales, we blame the marketing department for bad traffic or low traffic, we blame the leadership for poor decisions… and on and on.

In this RSA short, Brene highlights how important it is to eliminate blame and assume control.

#5 Daniel Pink – The ABC’s of Persuasion (RSA Short)

If you’ve been in sales for any amount of time, I’m sure you are familiar with the old ABC’s of closing – A. Always B. Be C. Closing. Always be closing. Always be closing.

Pink reframes this message for a more palatable selling approach and talks about the new ABC’s of closing: A – Attunement, B – Buoyancy, C – Clarity.

If you are still following the old ABCs, stop everything you are doing and sell nothing else until you watch this RSA short.

#6 Derek Sivers – How to Start A Movement (TED Talk)

Sales leaders, this one is for you!

Most of the sales leaders I work with are passionate about making changes in their organizations and they are 100% bought in on the training and/or consulting suggests that I make for their teams.

But here’s the rub, the sales team itself isn’t always so enthusiastic.

In this power and funny short TED talk, Sivers describes how important it is to cultivate followers since, as he points out, it’s the followers that really make a movement happen.

You can watch the video here.

Take a few minutes and watch some of these (or all of these for that matter because you could do it in less than 20 minutes!).

It will be time well spent and they just might change your world.
