3 Keys to Creating Your Million-Dollar Work Ethic

In previous blogs I’ve talked about having the right mindset for achieving goals. In this blog I want to move away from your mindset and talk about having the right work ethic.

I’m referring specifically to the methods you will use to achieve your sales goals. Too many people determine the “what” of setting sales goals, yet never get into action or gain any momentum because their work ethic isn’t equal to the size of their goals.

“You can’t have million-dollar dreams with a minimum-wage work ethic.”

That being said, I want to share three keys to creating a million-dollar work ethic that will help you make this your best sales year yet!

Million-Dollar Work Ethic #1: Hustle

Gary Vaynerchuck is the king of hustle. He has a quote that fits nicely here (and luckily doesn’t have any cuss words in it). Gary Vee says, “Without hustle, talent will only carry you so far.” If you want your sales to shoot off the charts this year, I’m challenging you get up off your butt and work harder than you’ve ever worked in your life.

Make one more call. Read one more chapter. Follow up with 10 more people. Outwork everyone – including your former self.

JUST FLAT OUT DO MORE!

Will it be tough? Yes.

Will you get less sleep? Absolutely.

Will you desire comfort and want to quit? Yup.

Will it be worth it to push through and work like you never have? I GUARANTEE IT.

Million-Dollar Work Ethic #2: Focus

It’s easy to get distracted from your sales goals. Squirrel, anyone? Maintaining focus will be crucial to having your best year yet.

And I believe that it’s nearly impossible to pursue a million-dollar work ethic if you’re unwilling to minimize distractions in your life.

With everything from Facebook to mobile devices to television (I mean seriously, how many channels do we really need?) keeping your eye on the prize becomes more and more difficult every day.

To stay focused on your sales goals, I suggest these three million-dollar best practices:

  • Relentlessly review your progress daily
  • Have a true accountability partner
  • Eliminate any and all potential distraction triggers (phone, email, T.V.)

Million-Dollar Work Ethic #3: Fail

Many people, including me, feel addicted to perfectionism. This creates a real problem because it compels us to linger in the “planning” stages and never really get anything accomplished.

That isn’t a work ethic. It’s a wish ethic.

Whatever you want to accomplish this year, recognize you’re gonna make a ton of mistakes. So, commit to failing your way to success.

A mentor once told me that you can’t steer a parked car. He said this because I was so focused on getting everything perfect that I wasn’t accomplishing anything. I was the parked car!

He suggested that I could course correct faster and easier, even if I was driving in the wrong direction… but that requires actual driving.

Stop focusing on getting it all right and get moving. Once you’re in motion, you will find it much easier point yourself in the right direction!

I truly hope you decide to make this your best sales year yet by adopting a million-dollar work ethic. When you do, hang on tight…it’s gonna change your world!
