Elegant Words

I have often recommended the book Words That Sell, an outstanding resource that challenges sales professionals to add new elegance to their routine patter. We all get in verbal ruts; the discipline of adding new words keeps us fresh.

Find a word that you are not currently using but that would help your presentation. It doesn’t have to be something highbrow or uncomfortably glamorous. You want it to be consistent with your own vocabulary.

Find a word you are already comfortable with but you’re just not using it as much as you could. Write that word on a post-it note and stick on the face of your computer. Just looking at the word will increase your chances of using it. When you find yourself using that word, find another.

This discipline will keep your vocabulary fresh and your sales presentation more interesting.
