Getting Mentally Prepared

One of the critical aspects of success in sales is making sure your mental approach is what it needs to be. I start most of my training days in a hotel room and it is imperative to me that I take the time before I leave the room to get myself mentally prepared for what the day holds. It makes a huge difference in the quality of the day.

Someone asked me recently, “How do you get psyched up to start the day?” Frankly, I’m not sure I would categorize it that way. I want to be very intentional in how I start the day on a positive note, but I do not play the Rocky soundtrack and jump around the room. Nor do I look in the mirror saying, “You’re good enough, you’re smart enough, and gosh darn it – people like you!”

How do I start the day? I use the time to pray for the people I will be talking to. I make a decision to commit the day to the people I will work with. For me, if I am right spiritually everything else falls into place – it’s how I best serve my clients.

What about you? What do you do – in an intentional manner – to start your day?
