16 True Things About You, Your Job, and Sales

1. It’s a new year, and you are still at your old job.

2. You could be very happy and successful working in sales.

3. Right now, you don’t believe me.

4. People think success in sales is based on personality, natural ability, age, experience, gender and magical powers.

5. People are dumb. Well, not all people. But many are, at the very least, very mistaken.

6. In terms of what is real and what can be imagined, your current fears
about working in sales are all imagined. Your current job is real.

7. The key to success in sales is based on one thing alone: how you handle discomfort.

8. You can learn to not only handle but to embrace discomfort.

9. I mean it. It’s the truth. You can. All successful sales people have overcome their discomfort; they are not magical beings.

10. You can retrain your brain to not fear discomfort by starting small. Choose a small discomfort (a phone call, a task, a conversation) to do now. Yes, right now.

11. Decide in advance what you will do the next time you face a common discomfort.

12. Did you get that? Don’t wait to feel comfortable before you take action. Decide in advance to act boldly. Expect the discomfort and when it happens, embrace it like the YOLO boss that you are! Do this now. I’ll wait.

13. Reward yourself once you are victorious over the small discomfort. Don’t skip this part…your brain changes when you feed it what it likes, and it likes reward! Coffee…a three minute dance party…a nap…whatever it is, do it!

14. When your brain changes, your life changes.

15. You can learn to embrace discomfort…you can be great at sales.

16. A powerful, magic wizard is never going to come down from a misty mountain and rescue you from your job.
