3 Keys to Finding Your Success in Sales and in Life

Success! Be successful! Work for your success!

These directives are everywhere. Becoming successful comes with so much pressure.

How are we supposed to become successful? Work harder! Work longer! Advance! Make more money!

But is this really success? If we follow this plan don’t we just end up with potentially more money but more likely deeply exhausted, alone and just plain sad?

The keys to success are different for everyone. Why? Because you have to define what success looks like for you.

Maybe it’s being a part of a job share opportunity that allows you more personal time for friends, family, recreation or volunteer opportunities. Maybe it’s doing what you love and are good at even if it doesn’t pay as well. Maybe it actually is career advancement with bigger and bigger bonuses.

Whatever your definition of success, good for you! No one other than yourself gets to decide if you are or are not successful and the more we try to internalize and fulfill others visions of what our success looks like, the more miserable we become.

So what are the keys to success?

  1. To define with deep clarity what your success looks like for you and only you.
  2. To, with conviction and rabid dedication, create and execute on a strategic plan that helps you achieve your vision of success.
  3. To ignore, remove and shutdown your haters. You must not allow others to dictate to you what defines your success.

Success is a journey, not a destination. And I imagine that you will redefine many times over your life what success means to you, and you should.

So what does your vision of success look like right now and what are you doing to achieve it?
