Funny=Money: Sales Lessons from Southwest Airlines (the Airline that Makes People LOL)

If you haven’t seen the video of the Southwest flight attendant doing a standup comedy version of the airline safety speech, you are perhaps the last person on the planet who hasn’t and you really should! Take a look.

Here are five quick sales lessons we can take from Southwest Airlines and their comedically talented employees:

  1. Laughter is contagious (as is stress).
  2. Flying and buying are stressful experiences: decrease your customers’ natural stress by bringing friendly calmness and good humor to the buying experience.
  3. Laughter is the best medicine for reducing stress hormones produced in the brain and significant reductions can occur in minutes and last for days. So basically, a salesperson can be as effective as a therapist!
  4. Happiness (in the form of humor and peace especially) breeds loyalty.
  5. Take your work seriously but not yourself.

Southwest Airlines has made it their mission to maintain a culture of fun and to provide their customers with laughs. They are serious about being funny. And indeed, their sales performance is worthy of spontaneous applause—is yours? Lighten up, work hard and change someone’s world!

And here’s a little more inspiration.
