A Bold Thanksgiving Challenge. Are You Up For It?
I know the blog post I’m supposed to write – something about taking the time to truly be thankful for our bountiful blessings, etc.
Not gonna knock that in any way – the attitude of gratitude thing is one of the more important principles in life.
I’m also guessing you already know that, so let me take this in a different direction with a different suggestion.
Let me tell you the simple but profound action I will be taking this week.
On Wednesday night I am planning on turning my phone off.
And I plan on leaving it off until Friday morning.
Confession: writing that last sentence raised my pulse rate significantly.
But I’m committing here before you and God and the whole wide virtual world – I’m shutting my phone down for the entire day.
And why?
Because I will have all my kids and their spouses and a good number of extended family members over for Thanksgiving, and I commit to being 100% present for them.
And that is the key.
I am not turning off the phone for my benefit, but for theirs.
I know my focus, I know my attention span, and I know my addiction.
If I want to be totally into my family, I need to be totally out of my phone.
There you have it.
Are you up for the challenge?
Happy (phone-free) Thanksgiving!
